Where is Sorrento?

Sorrento is a sensational and popular holiday destination town looking over the Bay of Naples in Southern Italy.

Sorrento, the isle of Capri and the Amalfi Coast are in the amazing region of Campania and on the Sorrentine Peninsula overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.


Where in Italy is Sorrento?
This is a resort city which is extremely popular among both tourists and Italians themselves as it is the western gateway to Amalfi, Positano. It is a ferry away from Capri, Ischia and Naples. Pompeii is a short, inexpensive, train ride away.

It does not have a main beach. There is a small sandy beach at Marina Grande. Swimming platforms are jetties over the sea with sun loungers for hire from which you can get into the sea to swim.

Sorrento is known for its friendliness and small narrow fascinating winding streets with shops selling lacework, ceramics, fresh fruit, limoncello and woodwork.

How to get from Rome to Sorrento.

The town is approximately 262 km from Rome by car and takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to drive. The trains take between 2 and 3 and a half hours to get to Sorrento (depending on the departure time). You will have to transfer in Naples or Salerno before arriving in Sorrento.

Train
There is no direct train from Rome Airport (FCO) to Sorrento.
 However, services departing from Fiumicino Aeroporto and arriving at Sorrento via Roma Termini and Napoli P. Garibaldi. The journey, including transfers, takes approximately 3h 13m.
The best way to get from Roma Termini to Tiburtina (Rome Metro) is by train which takes 7 min. 


What train goes from Naples to Sorrento?

Ferry
Rome is not on the sea so there is no ferry service from Rome to Sorrento.

Plane
There is no direct flight from Rome to Sorrento. You can fly from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport to Naples International Airport (Italian: Aeroporto Internazionale di Napoli) also known as Capodichino airport, then train it to Sorrento. The flights take around 1 hour and the train to Sorrento also around 1 hour.


Which airports fly direct to Naples?

Bus
Buses travelling from Rome to Sorrento depart from Rome's Tiburtina bus station and take approximately 4 hours to arrive at Sorrento's Corso Italia bus station.


How to get from Naples to Sorrento.

Train
Unfortunately, there isn't a direct train from Naples airport to Sorrento. You will first need to take the Alibus Shuttle to Naples Centrale Station and then take the Circumvesuviana train into Sorrento.

Bus
Another direct option is to take the Naples airport bus. This bus takes 75 minutes to reach Sorrento Station.

Is there a bus from Naples airport to Sorrento?

Taxi and Shuttle
Taking a taxi or a shuttle bus is the quickest and most convenient option as it takes about 70 minutes.

Ferry
You can take a ferry from Naples to Sorrento. This service takes 35 to 45 minutes. The main Naples ferry and the cruise port are right in the centre of Naples called Molo Beverello. The Alibus Naples airport bus terminates at Mollo Beverello and takes just 30 minutes to Naples Airport stopping on the way at the main Naples train station, Central Station.
